How to Get CoD Points
Towards the end of 2015, Call of Duty Points (CP) were introduced to Call of Duty: Black Ops II, providing an in-game currency which can pick up Supply Drops for online multiplayer and Zombies. This has continued with every release since.
In-game currency has always been a contentious issue in gaming, though as Activision have said in the past, CP points do not affect core progression. They’re used to pick up great in-game items while also providing some more options, as will be detailed later on.
CoD Points in Modern Warfare and Warzone
For Call of Duty Modern Warfare, the way CoD Points are used changed. Activision followed the model set by Fortnite, with loot boxes and microtransactions replaced by a Battle Pass. The new pass has 100 tiers for players to work their way through, with rewards given for passing each level. Every player has a battle pass, but you only get more rewards by buying the Premium Pass.
In March 2020, Call of Duty released Warzone, the latest version of the shooting blockbuster’s battle royale mode. This launched quickly and free for everyone, without needing to own Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Warzone has already amassed over 15 million players.
The game has the usual features you’d expect, such as a large map with a circle that players must be in to survive, with the last team alive getting the victory. Warzone boasts the largest player total in battle royale history, with maps containing 150 players – Activision has confirmed there will be a mode for 200 players in the near future. Call of Duty Points are also available for players in Warzone to purchase in-game items and the battle pass.
Here, we’ll have a quick look at CP Points, going into further detail as to what they are, how you can get them, and what they can be used for.
What Are CoD Points?
Call of Duty Points, otherwise known as CP or CoD Points, is the in-game currency for Modern Warfare and Warzone and all CoD titles released since 2015. Currently, CP points can be used to buy:
- The Battle Pass for Modern Warfare and Warzone (1000 Points)
- Skipping a Battle Pass Tier (100 Points)
- Purchasing Bundles from the store
These bundles include items such as:
- Specialist Heads and Bodies
- Weapon Camos
- Taunts
- Attachment Variants
- Calling Cards
- Emblems and Decals
Call of Duty Points aren’t essential for playing any game because the majority of items available are cosmetic. However, since the Battle Pass and bundles offer Blueprints, they can affect gameplay by giving you an easier way to earn perks and attachments for your weapons.
How Do You Get CoD Points?
There are two ways to get CoD Points:
In-game
You get rewarded with points and items for the amount of time you spend playing the game. The more you play, the higher you will go up the Call of Duty tier system. At certain levels, you will earn CP:
- 100 COD Points – Tier 6 (free)
- 100 COD Points – Tier 12 (premium)
- 100 COD Points – Tier 17 (premium)
- 100 COD Points – Tier 23 (premium)
- 100 COD Points – Tier 32 (premium)
- 100 COD Points – Tier 41 (premium)
- 100 COD Points – Tier 48 (free)
- 100 COD Points – Tier 56 (premium)
- 100 COD Points – Tier 66 (premium)
- 100 COD Points – Tier 74 (premium)
- 100 COD Points – Tier 82 (premium)
- 100 COD Points – Tier 91 (premium)
- 100 COD Points – Tier 98 (free)
Free players can get 300 CoD points while premium players will get 1300. Considering the Battle Pass costs 1000 points, theoretically, you will only have to pay for it once if you keep going up the tiers every season.
In-game Store
You can buy Points from the in-game store with real money – this can be found by selecting Store in Modern Warfare. There currently isn’t a limit to how many Points can be purchased – here are the blocks in which they can be bought on Playstation, Xbox and PC:
- 200 Points
- 500 Points
- 1,100 Points
- 2,400 Points
- 5,000 Points
- 9,500 Points
- 13,000 Points
Are CoD Points Worth It?
CoD Points won’t necessarily give you an edge when it comes to online multiplayer as the items you’ll pick up are more aesthetic. Earning or buying enough points to get a Battle Pass for each season will give you rewards and points you can use in both Modern Warfare and Warzone. As mentioned earlier, if you rank up the tiers every season, you will earn the Season 2 Battle Pass. You can do the same again for the Season 3 pass and beyond, so you can stock up your points on your favourite items.
